Our annual general meeting will be taking place on 7th November 2018 at 12.30pm at The Hope Centre, Westhoughton (directly after Junior Science / Senior Art). Everyone is encouraged to attend the discussion as this is a charity run for you. Even if you are not able to volunteer your time, your input is still valuable and important to us.  The charity has deliberately been set up as a membership based charity, similar to a co-operative because we want every member’s input.

During the meeting, we will be making some important decisions, including electing new trustees and discussing a proposal to introduce an annual membership fee. Please read on for more details. Topics for discussion:

1. Attendance and apologies

2. Annual Report & Financial Report

3. Budget and plans for 2017/18

4. Election of Trustees*

5. Proposal to introduce an annual membership fee**

6. Any Other Business.

*Election of Trustees Those wishing to stand for trustee positions – please make yourselves known to the existing trustees (Alison, Heather, Vicky and Teresa), either in person or by email. We are currently looking to fill the essential roles of Treasurer and Chair, and have spaces for up to 12 trustees in total. Trustees can be anyone who has an interest in supporting the charity, and need not necessarily be home educating themselves. The Trustees aim to meet around 5-6 times a year, and exchange a few emails between the meetings. As with all our volunteer posts, a DBS check and references will be required before you take up the post, which we will arrange at no cost to you. Full training and support will be offered to you in your role as a trustee. For more information about becoming a trustee, please take a look at: http://trusteesweek.org/

**Proposal to introduce an annual membership fee The Trustees will be putting forward the following proposal for introducing a membership fee to raise vital funds for the charity to continue: “As BAHE is now a formally registered charity, this has meant an increase in our administrative overheads.  In addition to this, we have been able to increase the services we offer. However, this has also led to an increase in the cost of running the charity.  BAHE is mostly run by unpaid volunteers and is heavily reliant on raising funds through grants. In order to keep BAHE affordable for all, the Trustees propose to introduce an Annual Family Membership+ fee of £20. The first year will run from 1st January 2019 to 31st August 2019 and will be reduced to £10. Thereafter, the annual fee will be £20, running from 1st September to 31st August. This will entitle members to a 20% discount off all activities. If the annual fee hasn’t been received within 6 months, membership will automatically cease.”

+A member may be an individual, or a family. A family membership will include all those living at the same postal address.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may appoint another person as a proxy to exercise your member’s rights to attend, speak and vote at the meeting. Please email us for further details.
